Tampa Area Business Office Manager Receives Scholarship from Florida Health Care Association

Florida Health Care Association (FHCA) recently granted Courtney Urban (left), an area business office manager at Palm Garden of Tampa, a Career Climb Scholarship Award.

FHCA awarded $2,000 in Career Climb Scholarship Awards to three long term care employees. Each recipient is considered among the best and brightest working in FHCA member nursing centers and assisted living facilities. Urban received $750 to help her continue pursuing her degree in Long Term Care Administration.

“As Florida’s elderly population increases, there is a growing need for qualified long-term care professionals,” said Emmett Reed, Chief Executive Officer of Florida Health Care Association. “Courtney Urban has shown dedication in pursuing this profession, and FHCA is pleased to contribute to advancing her education, expanding her career, and addressing Florida’s need.”

Award recipients must currently be enrolled in a program to advance their studies, demonstrate a commitment to the residents entrusted in their care, show leadership potential among their peers, and share a personal story, describing why they are choosing to advance their long term care career.

Other Career Climb award winners included:

  • Errol Webley, a Dietary Supervisor at Menorah Life in St. Petersburg, who received $500 to pursue a Certified Dietary Manager Food Management Program; and
  • Rakeem Screen, a certified nursing assistant (CNA) at Seven Hills Health & Rehabilitation Center in Tallahassee, who received $750 to pursue an LPN degree.

The Career Climb Scholarship was established to provide resources for FHCA member nursing centers and assisted living facility staff to further their education and advance their long term care careers. Scholarships are awarded twice a year and funded through the Florida Health Care Education & Development Foundation, the Association’s charitable foundation.
